Three hundred and fifty-nine Priority: Alzheimer's Quilts found new homes at the Houston International Quilt Festival in four and a half days (November 1-5, 2006) of frenzied selling. The full amount of each quilt sold ($16,950) was donated to the Alzheimer's Association, earmarked for research. An additional $396 in donations was also collected. These donations, plus the profits from the sale of 21 Alzheimer's: Forgetting Piece by Piece CDs ($240.45) was also turned over to the Alzheimer's Association for research, for a total of $17,586.45!

I am overwhelmed at the generosity of the quilters who both donated and purchased these little quilts, purchased CDs, and donated money to put us further along the path to finding a cure. The money collected at this event doubled the money the AAQI previously collected to help fund Alzheimer's research.

My very special thanks are also extended to Debbie Chenail and Judy Vaughn, my two assistants here at Mallery Press. They spend hours and hours getting ready for this special exhibit. Debbie also volunteered her time throughout the entire adventure in Houston. Nanette Zeller flew to Houston from North Carolina on her own dime to work in the booth. Kathy Dennis and Susan Pain opened their homes to us, typed out the price tags and information about the quilt, provided transportation, and with Annette Copeland, worked the booth. This could not possibly have happened without their helping hands.

Our celebrity sales team whipped the crowds into a buying frenzy, AND autographed four little quilts that will find their way onto the auction block soon. They are: Alex Anderson, Charlotte War Anderson, Georgia Bonesteel, Karen Kay Buckley, Sandy Bonsib, Debbie Caffrey, Hollice Chatelain, Darlene Christopherson, Susan Cleveland, Melody Crust, Judy Dales, Nancy Brenan Daniel, Jodie Davis, Carol Doak, Robbie Joy Eklow, John Flynn, Diane Gaudynski, Flavin Glover, Morna McEver Golletz, Roberta Horton, Kathy Kansier, Helen Marshall, Dixie McBride, Kathy Miller, Sue Nickels, Linda M. Poole, Bethany Reynolds, Jackie Robinson, Sally Schneider, Ricky Tims, Barb Vlack, Donna Wilder, and Janet Jones Worley. Thank you, friends.

Exhibit space was generously donated by Karey Bresenhan for the event. The Houston Alzheimer's Association provided staff to answer questions about Alzheimer's disease, and procured the "walls" for the booth which were covered with black fabric donated by EE Schenck.

Thank you, EVERYONE!
