 Using the right tools always makes the job easier, no matter if you're trying to hammer in a nail with your shoe, or using the wrong size pin for your applique. You want a SHORT, sharp needle to hold the pieces of fabric together. Why? Simple. Long needles get in the way. They're clunky, they catch your thread, they get stuck in your hand as you gather the material in your hands, and if you accidentally sit on your applique they can really hurt!
These are the best pins I've found. Just the right size: 3/4" long. Enjoy!
