I made this photo quilt to send to my husband for our first anniversary. We were married in October 2004 and moved (courtesy of the US Army) to Fort Polk, La. in December of 2004. Much to our surprise, my husband received orders to deploy to Iraq after we had been there only 6 months. In mid July, he left for the Middle East. I thought long and hard about what I could send him that would commemorate our very first anniversary and the fact that we were spending it so many miles away from each other. I utilized fabric that had Army symbols on it and pictures from our life together and my husband's life in the military. I wanted to give him a gift that would remind him that he was missed and loved. And now, I know that every night he gets to snuggle up next to me and the rest of our family when he sleeps. Faith M.
